A last Hurrah!

The last full month of summer and the garden is going into its final crescendo before it can let out its big sigh of relief in September.

The whole garden is in full swing of life and colour. Life is life-ing, caterpillars or cabbage whites (or great whites – they never leave a business card) are stripping bare the nasturtiums, I have very sad tomatoes and some happier ones in the greenhouse, a good few luffas are growing, more blue butterfly pea flowers (still not loads though), a forest of bell peppers, oodles of exciting chillies, an enormous papaya tree(!), 3 (!) potential pineapple guava fruits, golden light in the food forest, happy snoozing kittens, fluffy fuzzy bumblebees and glowing dahlias amongst a sea of other jewels.

Hereโ€™s to a good August ๐ŸŒพ and finally setting up the irrigation system in the greenhouse ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ™ƒ

Blue Butterfly Pea

Discovering colour changing gin made me look up the ingredients and this little gem was the key! After many trial & errors I've finally managed to grow them successfully.

Luffa

Back in 2019 my best friend in NL showed me she was going to grow Luffa and I was intrigued! Roll on to 2021 when I had a go, failed & failed again (yes twice in a year). Tried again in 2022 and had success! 2023 was a bust with tiny fruits despite a good start, and 2024 was another great year (7 large luffa from just 3 plants!). Now in 2025 I've sent out seeds from my '24 luffas & am hosting a Grow Along. I love growing Luffa!

Chilli Purple Flash

At my first visit to the South Devon Chilli Farm I also had a look at their nursery (naturally) and fell in love with this stunning variety. I know they say not to judge a book by its cover, but, it's exactly what I did with this beautiful plant. Everything about the colours and variegation tickled my happy bones. Can't wait to see the fruits it'll (hopefully) produce for me and that I can successfully overwinter this amazing looking plant.
