Happy first of the last month! Wow that went fast 😵💫 and yet, also not 🤭 a lot has happened this year and I’m looking forward to more next year. Right then, let’s get to it!
Today on the first we have the start of the meteorological winter and it’s also the first day of advent (Christian)
On the 5th in the Netherlands (my home country) we celebrate Sinterklaas with lots and lots of pressies, crammed into a jute sack and with lots of speculaas type sweets and things. In Belgium they celebrate this on the 6th.
On the 13th (a Friday 😍😉😱) is St Lucia’s Day (Christian)
On the 21st is the Winter solstice at 09:19 and it marks the start of the astronomical Winter – the one I go by. The 21st is also Yule, the Pagan midwinter celebration as the light will start to return from this day.
The 24th is Christmas Eve, followed closely by Christmas Day & Hanukkah which starts at sundown on 25, Boxing Day on 26, and closing the calendar year off on the 31st with New Year’s Eve.
This months full moon falls on the 15th, and is called Oak moon, Full Cold moon or moon before Yule (as it’s the last full moon before the solstice) 🥶🌝
In between all the festivities we’ve got Minoes’ (our black & white girl cat) birthday on the 12th and she’ll be turning 11!
To keep us humans busy this month we have a do-fun-things advent calendar and today’s joy was getting our tree 🌲 I’ll be decorating the tree tomorrow 🎄
On Saturday the 7th we have our annual Christmas celebration with market stalls and lovely things to eat @kingsbridgecelebratesxmas – can’t wait!
In the garden is still a mountain of work to do, everything has gone to snot and it looks a terrible mess, desperately need to lift my dahlias if I want any chance of them surviving for next year. At least I’ve started on the greenhouse today by pulling the still alive chilli pepper plants. Going to try and over winter them in the house (I suppose? – not done this yet before 🤷♀️) to have a head start next year!
Happy December everyone, I hope it’s a good one for you however you celebrate or not ✨
