Happy first of June and happyย #prideย month ! ๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€โšง๏ธ

Today marks the first day of the meteorological summer and the weather is showing how itโ€™s done! โ˜€๏ธ today the first also marks the start of the Gypsy, Roma & traveller history month. With between 8th – 11th Appleby horse fair which is a gathering for Gypsy & Traveller. 17th – 25th special Olympics in Berlin. The 18th (3rd Sunday of the month) is Fatherโ€™s Day. Then 20th my mum in-lawโ€™s birthday ๐ŸŒธ

On the 21st we have the summer solstice and Iโ€™m thinking if the garden provides I may make myself a flower crown and have a bonfire in the evening. The solstice, or midsummer marks the start of the astronomical summer & Litha, the pagan midsummer celebration.

21st is also world humanist day and the 26th – 1st July is Hajj, Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca.

Lots happening this month and the garden is no different. Iโ€™m slowly getting there with having everything planted out with only the watermelon and some calendula left to plant in the greenhouse and this morning till 2pm saw a planting marathon and fence building, rubble moving and soil levelling. Could not have done all the hard graft without my baby brother – thank you Thomas! ๐Ÿฅฐโ™ฅ๏ธ๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿ™Œย  off for drinks and dinner out now this eve ๐Ÿฅ‚

In the mean time

There’s lots happening in the garden & greenhouse at the moment. Everything seems to have had their wake up call and is raring to go! Lots of new growth and growth spurts from all that were so behind for so long. They’re really loving the sunshine and their new living quarters. Everything is in process of either being potted on, planted out or direct sown, tied up, supported in various ways and generally just loving life. Flowers are sprouting daily and more join the ranks each day. Various plants have also started throwing out their fruits and all I can do I hope the right flowers to help with pollination appear as well.

I’m also beyond thrilled that my 3 sister bed is finally up and running, cleared, build, levelled and planted up. It’s been such a long time coming and I’m so excited to see everything that’s planted there is actually doing ok! In this squarespace I’ve got 2 varieties of corn; Glass Gem & Incredible, 2 varieties of pole beans to dry; Sietske & Cerise du Japon, 2 varieties of pumpkins; Crown Prince & Queensland Blue. Along those 3 sisters (๐ŸŒฝ๐Ÿซ˜๐ŸŽƒ) I’ve also got sunflowers at the back and hollyhocks to the left growing. The sunflower tags got lost so it’ll be a surprise which ones are growing, the hollyhocks are a mix of 3 varieties; Creme de Cassis, Jet Black & Majorette Double Champagne. I’m looking forward to seeing them all flower later in summer or next year if they’re not quite there yet.
