First full month of autumn! πŸƒπŸ‚πŸ

We’re truly in my favourite time of year now. The colours, the golden sunlight, the stunning sunsets, walks in the woods, pumpkin picking with friends, hearty foods, foraging nuts & berries. Aaaah I love it!

First up this month Harvest Home/Ingathering – traditional English harvest festival, Start of Black History Month & 1st-2nd: Day of Atonement/Yom Kippur (Jewish) – begins and ends at sundown. Then between the 6th-13th: Tabernacles/Sukkot (Jewish) – begins and ends at sundown. The 10th Old Michaelmas day (Christian/traditional).

Octobers full moon fall on the 7th and is called the Hunters moon or blood moon. But as its the closer full moon to the equinox its also called the Harvest moon (which is normally in September). This full moon is also a super moon! πŸŒ• appearing between 14-30% brighter.

Diwali – festival of lights (Hindu/Sikh/Jain) on the 20th πŸͺ” 🍎 Apple day on the 21st 🍏 The end of British summertime is on the 26th, make sure to put your clocks an hour back.

31st Hallowe’en and Samhain, celebrating the beginning of winter (Pagan/Celtic/Gaelic) on the cross-quarter day.

So much is still going on in the garden and I gotta be honest, I’ve not been out in it at all. The times I do though, like today, I am pleasantly surprised by what’s growing and doing well, like the yarrow I grew from seed this year and that got decimated by our slimy friends, it’s fully bounced back and thriving.

I’m looking forward to lots this month. Mr CGL and I will have been together for 15 years this month! I’m also about to enter my showgirl era and I can wait for the new album to drop this Friday ❀️‍πŸ”₯ I know the world is on fire and about to end but I’m excited for new music, making friendship bracelet with my husband whilst drinking cocktails 🍸

Happy October! πŸŽƒβ€οΈβ€πŸ”₯πŸΈπŸƒπŸ‚πŸπŸ„β€πŸŸ«

Chilli Purple Flash

At my first visit to the South Devon Chilli Farm I also had a look at their nursery (naturally) and fell in love with this stunning variety. I know they say not to judge a book by its cover, but, it's exactly what I did with this beautiful plant. Everything about the colours and variegation tickled my happy bones. Can't wait to see the fruits it'll (hopefully) produce for me and that I can successfully overwinter this amazing looking plant.

Luffa

Back in 2019 my best friend in NL showed me she was going to grow Luffa and I was intrigued! Roll on to 2021 when I had a go, failed & failed again (yes twice in a year). Tried again in 2022 and had success! 2023 was a bust with tiny fruits despite a good start, and 2024 was another great year (7 large luffa from just 3 plants!). Now in 2025 I've sent out seeds from my '24 luffas & am hosting a Grow Along. I love growing Luffa!
