β€œI feel it in the Earth. I smell it in the air.”

This month is extra special since tomorrow, the 2nd is our wedding anniversary (8th one – oh how time flies when you’re loved well β™₯️)

On the 4th it’s Prophet Muhammad’s birthday which will begin at the sighting of the crescent moon (Islamic πŸŒ™)

September’s full moon falls on the 7th, would normally be the Harvest moon but since the October full moon is closer to the Autumnal equinox it goes to them at month. This months full moon is also called Song Moon or Wine Moon. This month will also see a full eclipse on the 7th, with the moon rising at 19:30 & fully eclipsed until 20:56

The 11th is Enkutatash – Ethiopian New Year (Rastafarian)

The Autumn equinox is on the 22nd, celebrated with Mabon – the pagan harvest celebration.

The 22nd till 24th is Rosh Hashanah/ Jewish New Year, for the Jewish year 5786 that will begin at sunset. Let’s hope their new years wish could be peace, a cease fire, immediate stop to the horrific genocide that is happening in Palestine πŸ‰ On the 29th is Michaelmas Day (Christian/traditional)

Autumn is near 🍁

Today we entered my absolute favourite month. There’s a tangible shift in nature. Almost as if there’s a collective sigh of relief amongst the trees, shrubs, bushes and any other plants, that they no longer have to preform or go, go, go. They can relax and settle into a calm before tucking in and going to bed in winter.

I much feel the same relief from summer and feel I can finally take a deep breath again. The air smells different, the sun feels different, the colours of foliage has changed, the skies are once again utterly stunning. It’s safe to say I adore autumn and even though we’re not officially there (I go by the astrological dates – equinoxes & solstices, rather than the meteorological ones – 1st of certain months, like this one!)

In the garden I’ve spotted the first blackberries AND rose hips!!! Plural! I’m so excited. It’s been a good year for my edible hedge and I can’t wait for it to fully grow into a full hedge, dripping with fruits and nuts. The dahlias are still romping away in full swing, the tomatoes are still going, loads of chillies and the luffas are growing and drying right in front of me. So excited to get towards the end of the grow along now. It’s been so fun to do.

Luffa

Back in 2019 my best friend in NL showed me she was going to grow Luffa and I was intrigued! Roll on to 2021 when I had a go, failed & failed again (yes twice in a year). Tried again in 2022 and had success! 2023 was a bust with tiny fruits despite a good start, and 2024 was another great year (7 large luffa from just 3 plants!). Now in 2025 I've sent out seeds from my '24 luffas & am hosting a Grow Along. I love growing Luffa!

Chilli Purple Flash

At my first visit to the South Devon Chilli Farm I also had a look at their nursery (naturally) and fell in love with this stunning variety. I know they say not to judge a book by its cover, but, it's exactly what I did with this beautiful plant. Everything about the colours and variegation tickled my happy bones. Can't wait to see the fruits it'll (hopefully) produce for me and that I can successfully overwinter this amazing looking plant.
