Patio

Patio, Pots, Party & Popcorn

This area is quite a large space with a lot of potential. We've got a plan for it, it just needs executing.

The back wall of the patio is the front wall of the existing pond. It's an ugly square tub made out of concrete blocks and I hate it. It does have a family of newts in it though. When it goes, we will be using the back wall of the pond to be the new back wall of the patio. This means the dining table can go where the pond was and we'll erect a pergola over it with the plan to have two wisteria growing & flowering over it. The pergola will be black which will make the green and blue-purple of the wisteria POP!

Next to it will be a BBQ area with maybe a pizza oven? Before that happens I'm planning on having sweet corn and sunflowers growing there. It's June now and I've planted my three sisters (or actually 5) in the space. The rest of the remaining open space will be multi functional - training space (martial arts for my husband), seating & fire pit for evening entertainment and I'm sure it will find many other uses.

I've got my eye on a couple of roses from David Austin - it's the 'Bring me Sunshine' rose & 'Dannahue' that they brought out this year. I love the colours and it apparently smells great too. Just a bit of colour would be nice there. I'm also wanting to plant my Pineapple guava here and get a second one so I can hopefully - finally - have some pollinated fruits. Some other additions will be a persimmon tree (either in a big pot or in ground) as well as a black lace elderflower.

At some point I think I'd like to change the flooring (currently one massive concrete slab with drawn in lines) to hexagonal concrete bricks that I'll be making myself over the coming winter. I'm thinking black concrete with maybe a couple of shade of grey to not make it all too dark and for a playful feel overall. They will be paved in a circular shape with "ragged" edges and along it planted with some creeping thyme and chamomile lawn.

What is growing here?
